acrylic on canvas 20” H X 24”
Inspired by a work on paper from the series “Freedom”
Collage -coloured acetate, oil pastel, paper
13.5” H X 17” W
I started the piece by writing on the canvas:
Trump-negative news/tweets such as~
‘This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history.”
I then painted three coats of white over the black lettering to leave as little trace as possible. I then painted it blue and painted the words “peace now” and painted the pink dove with the world in it’s peak.
The only trace of the underlying "Trump...negative news/tweets" was some brush strokes.
Similarly it's going to take a lot of effort to change the policies and the havoc that Trump has created. It will happen. Like the brush strokes there will always be a remnant...a reminder ...a cautionary warning...we must never let this happen again.
Peace Now Efforts
There are a multitude of efforts worldwide to help establish a world at peace including the UN Peace Day. Here is one actually called Peace Now.
Our mission is to gather One Billion Signatures in support of peace and the creation of departments of peace within all governments. Each initiative -Peace Education- Films for Peace – Peace Business Certification – supports building a grass roots constituency that will help enact The Global Resolution for the Establishment of Infrastructures to Support the Culture of Peace.
The bird is generally thought to be a symbol of freedom. They can walk on the earth and swim in the sea as humans do but they also have the ability to soar into the sky. Birds are free to roam to earth and the sky. Many cultures believe that they are a symbol of eternal life; the link between heaven and earth.
The Dove is generally thought to be a symbol of peace. In Christianity, the dove is a symbol of the holy spirit, and represents the soul. It is also symbolic of love.
The dove is a symbol of innocence, gentleness, and affection.
